About us
Thirty years of turning good businesses into networks.
We’ve taken more than ninety South African brands through the full franchising process — and told a fair few others that they weren’t ready.
Franchising is not a marketing exercise.
It’s an operations problem wearing a marketing suit. A business franchises successfully when someone who has never met you can walk into a new site, follow the system, and produce the same result you produce. Everything else — the brand, the agreement, the launch campaign — is downstream of that.
That’s the work we do. Franchise in a Box was built to be the one place a business owner can go and get the whole thing handled: the honest assessment first, then the documentation, the legal framework, the trademark protection, the training systems, the store rollout and the marketing. Under one roof, by people who have done it before.
Ninety-plus brands later, the approach hasn’t changed.

Founder
Robin van Rensburg
Franchise Development Consultant · FASA Member 2012–2025 · Former FASA Board Member
Robin has spent thirty years in franchising, and came to it the way most good consultants do — by running the businesses first. Fast food, pharmaceuticals and IT, before moving into franchise development full time.
He has worked closely with brands including Pedros, H2O, Ko-lay, Fifi’s Fresh Fish, Divine Pooches, Village Fish & Chips and Stylewize, and has taken more than ninety South African businesses through the franchising process. His expertise in turnaround strategy was sharpened during MBA studies at UCT.
What clients tend to mention isn’t the credentials. It’s that he tells them the truth about whether their business is ready — including when the answer is no.
The wider team
Robin works alongside two experienced associates, bringing the combined total to more than sixty years across legal, financial, operational, design and human resources disciplines.
Lourens Muller
Design & Municipal Submissions · AboDeZign
Forty years in and around the construction industry, from a family of stone masons and developers. Lourens handles store design, concept drawings and the municipal submission process — the part of a store rollout that quietly delays everyone else’s opening date.
Andre van der Merwe
Human Resources & Franchisee Selection · Penspective
Author, entrepreneur, graphologist and HR practitioner. Andre brings structure to the hardest decision a franchisor makes — choosing who gets to carry the brand. Recruitment, contracts and people systems built for networks rather than single sites.
How we work
We start with the truth
Every engagement begins with a Franchise Readiness Assessment. If your business isn’t ready, we’ll say so — and tell you what would need to change.
We don’t disappear
Documentation is where most consultants stop. We carry on through trademark, training, store rollout and launch — because that’s where franchises actually succeed or fail.
Ethical, FASA-aligned
FASA members from 2012 to 2025, with a term on the board. Franchising done properly protects franchisees as much as franchisors — and a network only holds if both sides win.
Let’s find out if you’re ready.
